I took my love of psychology, desire to help others, and strength in problem solving to arrive at a career in UX. I’ve spent the last five years working in all facets of the space: from front end design and development, to usability testing, to UX writing and content strategy.
When I’m not working, you can find me practicing Zen, going on adventures with my wife, drawing/painting, singing while cooking, and learning more about the subjects I love.
What I Do
If I was in Avatar: The Last Airbender...
I would be a Waterbender! (Pictured here is a digital art piece I did of my wife and I as Aang and Katara, respectively.) Besides this element being the coolest (literally and figuratively), I find that waterbending fits my personality perfectly!
Water is the element of change, and as a waterbender (in my heart), I am able to adapt and grow with each new experience. When I reflect back on my life, I can see tremendous change in myself, even from just a few months ago! I'm constantly learning, developing my skills, and becoming who I am meant to be!
Waterbending in Avatar: The Last Airbender takes many forms, from creating waves to ice breath to Foggy Swamp plant-bending, there is a wide range of skills needed as a Waterbender, which matches up with my diverse set of skills that I've learned from being in several different fields (psychology, tech, and art)!
Water is beautiful to look at, and feels great when you go swimming in it, but over time, water can weather down any stone. I know that I am determined and eager to work in a field that I love. I am passionate and care very deeply about people and making a difference in the world. Like water, I can create change.
- How many Zen Buddhists does it take to change a lightbulb?
There is no light bulb.
- How many web developers does it take to change a lightbulb?
One, but by fixing one, six other bulbs go out.
- How many improvisational comedians does it take to change a lightbulb?
It takes 4 shortform improvisers. One to get a suggestion, one to narrate in gibberish, one to translate the narration, and one to keep score.
- How many altos does it take to change a lightbulb?
None, they can’t get up that high.
- How many dogs does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Dog: Lightbulb? That thing I just ate was a lightbulb??
- How many cats does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Cat: Cats do not change light bulbs. People change light bulbs. So, the question is: How long will it be before I can expect light?
